TECHNICAL: use of Foley

Foley

Foleying is a sound effect technique for synchronous effects or live effects. The technique is named after a famous sound editor called Jack Foley, who worked at Universal Studios.

Foley Artists match live sound effects with the action of the picture. The sound effects are added "manually" and not cut in with film. Foley artists often use alternative props to recreate the diegetic sound that the actors use on film.

Here is a video to show how Foley artist recreate and mimic the sound.
